Research

Our research focuses on the functioning of supervisory boards and management boards. We take a behavioral point of view to examine the determinants of an effectively functioning board. As such, our aim is to contribute to the effective functioning of participating boards and at the same time contribute to academic research about boardroom dynamics.

There is a great deal of research on the functioning of supervisory boards and management boards. However, much of this research approaches boards as a 'black box' and does not examine the dynamics within the boardroom. We believe that a more profound and structured examination of supervisory boards and management boards is necessary to truly understand board functioning.

Information provided by supervisory board members and management board members offers a valuable contribution to the knowledge development on how boards function. Therefore, BoardResearch offers the use of its online self-assessment questionnaire free of charge.
